She has conducted hundreds of investigations for both public and private employers on a wide range of matters, including claims of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower complaints, and employee misconduct. In addition to investigating for medical peer review committees looking into complaints of misconduct by medical staff, Lisa has led investigations addressing allegations against corporate executives, government and elected officials, and judicial officers. Lisa is certified by the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) to conduct Title IX investigations. She conducts investigations for educational institutions on claims involving gender discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
Lisa also provides legal advice to California employers, executives, managers, and human resources professionals on all aspects of employment law. She works closely with her clients to address issues of employee performance, termination, leaves of absence, disability, and wage-hour compliance, and has acted as in-house employment counsel providing daily advice to executives and management on complex issues.
Prior to co-founding Ellis Buehler Makus, Lisa ran her own boutique employment law firm for 13 years, where she specialized in conducting workplace investigations. Prior to that, she was a partner at the employment practice firm of Schachter, Kristoff, Orenstein & Berkowitz in San Francisco, where she represented employers and managers in all aspects of employment law and litigated employment claims in state and federal courts. Lisa began her legal career at the San Francisco office of Morrison & Foerster, where she practiced general commercial litigation.
Lisa graduated from the University of California, Davis and the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she was the Managing Editor of the law review.
